HOW TO FIND a hoop to get you started on your hoop journey!
Finding a hoop to get started in hooping can be a bit of a process.
When I first started hooping, my husband bought me a put together store bought fitness hoop from Target. It was not great at first. I thought all the trouble I had keeping it up and moving around my waist just about my nerve damage. I now know that, for my size, the hoop was a little small. Or I was a little large! And while it worked for me eventually, my challenge might have been less, if I had a little knowledge of how a hoop should fit a person. It was while attending my Hoola-Fit classes in Florida that I first first heard information about HOW a hoop should fit you.

RULE OF THUMB
If you stand the hoop on end in front of you. Place the hoop just in front of your toes on the ground and rest the other end against your belly. A well suited hoop should hit you about 2" above the belly button. If you measure from the floor to two inches above your belly button that is the size hoop you need. This is the diameter of the hoop. Keep in mind the diameter can be larger, but smaller might be a struggle.
YOU SHOULD KNOW
The larger the hoop is and/or heavier a hoop is, the slower it will move around your body. This actually gives YOU time to moved within the hoop.
The smaller a hoop is and/or lighter a hoop is, the faster it will move around your body. And you will need to move faster to keep it up. Thus, a larger hoop might be a better option!
WEIGHTED HOOP OR STANDARD HOOP (Unweighted)
I started with a weighted fitness hoop from Target. When I moved to Florida I picked up a water weighted hoop. I was a water hoop fan for a long time and am now becoming more of a fan of unweighted hoops. That said, if your hoop is weighted, having heavier tubing or additional tape is the way to go. Currently, I am monkeying around with adding weight to hoops, but not using water. I think weight helped.
* I think the whole weighted hoop or unweighted hoop, is a good blog post idea.

My hoops are $25 and you get to pick from two great bright colors for a standard hoop or weighted hoop. Connect with me and we can chat about what you need. Why a budget hoop? I create affordable hoops with the intension of getting you started on your hoop journey. This was born out of meeting people, working with them, and assessing hoops with them. Often this happened when I did not have hoops with me, just mine! It was at this point I started creating a budget hoop and sending it off to it's new home, usually just with friends, locally in Florida. Budget, means that I use 2 colors of Gaffer/Grip tape, and the black tubing will show through. Use the contact section of this website to email me! I now create a sparkly budget hoop with a $5 tape upgrade. Two colors of gaffer tape and one sparkle tape.
Weighted Hoop for shipping: Additionally I can create a DYI - water weighted hoop. I recently did this for a snowbird and it worked nicely for her. Instructions to finish your hoop are on line via my YouTube video.
